Invitation to Submit
Authors are invited to submit abstracts for possible inclusion in the 2018 International Conference for Emergency Nurses program. The conference theme ‘Showcasing the Best of Emergency Care’ aims to share the current knowledge, ideas and developments in emergency care.
The 16th International Conference for Emergency Nurses 2018 subthemes include:
- Technology in education
- Innovation in clinical practice
- Leadership and Management
- Patient Safety
Submissions must include a 300-word abstract. The abstracts will be assessed by the conference scientific committee for quality and applicability to the above themes. Submissions are due by 13th June 2018.
All abstracts are to be submitted electronically as plain text via the Presentation Portal. You do not need to prepare a word document abstract for upload. The receipt of submissions will be confirmed by an acknowledgment email. All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified by 8th August 2018, within an appropriate time frame to allow registration during the Early Bird Registration phase.

To submit a presentation you will be asked to enter your email address and create a password.
Once you have created an account you can submit abstracts. You can log back in to submit more abstracts and to register for the conference.
We invite you to submit abstracts for the following formats. While you will be asked to indicate your preferred presentation format, the program committee may request an alternative format be considered. The committee will allocate abstracts and papers to the program taking into account the preference of authors and the balance of the program.
All submissions are required to submit an abstract as plain text in the Presentation Portal. A word document is not required for upload.
Oral presentations will be allocated 15 minutes presentation; 5 minutes question time; 5 minute room change.
Oral presentations will be scheduled during the concurrent sessions in the conference program within the stream that they are best suited to.
Conference paper awards
A ‘best evidence into practice’ award will be provided by the NSW Emergency Care Institute. This award is for oral presentations only. The criteria to be eligible for this award are
- Is the paper related to closing an important gap between the best available evidence and current clinical practice?
- Does the paper mention results of the practice change and how these were achieved or not?
- Does the paper mention barriers or enablers in implementing the practice change?
- Was implementation theory applied in the change process?
If you believe your submission meets these criteria please indicate this during the submission process.
There are two options for posters: Select your preferred Poster format during submission.
- Hard copy AO size
Posters should be A0 size (A0 size is 841mm x 1189mm) in portrait orientation. They will be displayed for the duration of the conference on in the exhibition and catering area. A “best poster” prize will be awarded and to be eligible, presenters must be present to answer any questions during the poster session. The poster should be a visual presentation of your submitted abstract and should meet the following criteria
Electronic posters will be prepared as a PowerPoint slide and displayed for the duration of the conference on monitors in the exhibition and catering area. The posters will rotate automatically and each poster will be shown for one minute. Presenters may choose to add a pre-recorded narration of one minute duration. Narration should focus on Aim, Key findings and Conclusion. Delegates will be able to pause individual posters to view them in more detail. ePosters will also be available to view in the conference app.
Abstract Submission Procedure
- Prepare your abstract
Prepare your 300 word abstract text. This applies for oral and ePoster submissions
- Enter your contact details
Go to the Presentation Portal (above) to enter your contact details.
- Enter Presenter and Author details
Enter names and affiliations of the presenter and authors. Also enter brief biography of the presenter(s), 100 words is sufficient.
- Enter your abstract details
‘Cut and Paste’ the abstract text 300 words and into the relevant field in the Presentation Portal.
Abstract Document Details
For each abstract you submit you will be asked to enter the following information:
- Presentation title
- Preferred presentation format
- Name/s of author/s
- Affiliation/s of author/s
- Indicate the presenter
- Short (100 word) biography of the presenter(s)
All presenters will be required to register for the conference and pay the appropriate registration fee. Presenters also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

Each lecture room will be equipped for the presentation of Power Point slides and include a data projector, computer (with external speakers), lectern and microphone. Other audiovisual aids, such as Overhead Projectors, are not available
Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.
Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the conference on a memory stick, where an audiovisual technician will load your presentation.
All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.
